Illuminate Your Outdoors: A Guide to Wall Lighting Installation

Are you looking to enhance the safety and aesthetics of your outdoor spaces? Installing outdoor wall lighting is a fantastic way to illuminate pathways, patios, and doorways. Here’s a quick guide to get you started:

1. Use an RCD: Always connect your outdoor lighting through a Residual Current Device (RCD). This essential safety feature ensures that power shuts off immediately in case of a fault, protecting you and your home.

2. Preparation: Begin by drilling a slightly angled hole in the wall where you want your light to be installed. This will help direct water away from the fitting.

3. Cable Management: Place a plastic conduit in the drilled hole and feed your cable through. Ensure that cable cores are properly connected to the right terminals, and wrap them in PVC tape to protect against moisture.

4. Secure the Fixture: Attach the light fixture to your wall and use silicone sealant to prevent any moisture from entering the unit.

5. Wiring: Run the supply cable back to a junction box inside your home. Install a switch indoors, ensuring you use a two-core-and-earth cable for safe operation.

6. Final Checks: Always use a voltage tester to ensure the power is off before making any connections in the junction box.

By following these steps, you can successfully install outdoor wall lighting that not only beautifies your home but also enhances safety.
